Counselling

As a person-centred counsellor my style is gentle yet effective. I will work hard to understand your life from your point of view. I will listen to and accept your feelings, working at your pace and not pressuring you. I won’t give you advice, but I’ll help you focus on your changing experiences and together we’ll look for the right solutions for you.

Each session is your time and your space; you choose what to talk about. We may discuss thoughts, feelings, behaviours and situations relating to the past, present or future. My aim is to provide a caring and non-judgemental environment where you feel safe to be yourself. The aim of counselling is to help you access a greater self-awareness and self-acceptance, feel empowered to take control and change your life for the better.

EMDR Therapy

This is a form of psychotherapy beneficial for people coping with traumatic incidents (e.g. accidents, life threatening events, abuse). In these moments the mind can be too overwhelmed to process what is going on, sometimes leading to sights, sounds, thoughts, and feelings associated with the memory being re-experienced.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) utilises the natural eye movements usually experienced during sleep. The technique helps the brain to properly process the event and develop coping mechanisms. EMDR doesn’t erase the memory but makes it easier to manage and reduces the level of distress it causes.

EMDR is also highly effective in treating anxiety and phobias.

What's Right for You?

What may have been right for someone else may not be right for you. The type of therapy or person you go to is unique to you.

Our work together may involve either counselling or EMDR, or a combination of both. We will discuss this and agree a way forward together.

The most helpful element in therapy is the relationship between the counsellor and client, so it is best to find someone you like and trust.

Most people, who work with the right therapist for them, find it a positive and freeing experience. See what previous clients say...
